Minutes of the Technical Committee Meeting of November 9, 1999

  1. The Meeting was called to Order at 7:10 p.m. by Allan Avnet, AB6UB, Tech Committee Chairman.
  2. A Motion to accept the Minutes of the September meeting, as corrected, was made by Jensen Woods, AH6MX, seconded by John Cordle, KF6XY.
  3. Allan Avnet, AB6UB, asked if there was any business for the Committee from those attending the meeting, that was not already on the agenda.
    1. Jose Angel Batrez, KD6AFA, presented an amended RFC for a change of location, from the Henry property to a private location in City Terrace. A Motion for a one-year test was made by Jensen Woods, AH6MX, and Seconded by Duncan Campbell, KF6ILA. Vote by Committee 5-0.

  4. Karl Pagel, N6BVU, Technical Committee Secretary, explained system updates to the Committee;
    1. 145.420 N7OD in Hemet sent in a letter explaining loss of choice site location in the mountains overlooking Hemet. The repeater is temporarily located on the roof of a local hospital, until a better location can be found.
    2. 146.970 WB6LYB in Trona sent in an updated RFC.
    3. 146.895 KD6OI in Idyllwild has changed callsign and trustee to WA6SSS
    4. 147.060 W6PWT sent a letter telling the test has begun at the new site as of September 5, 1999.
    5. 147.435 W6NUT on Saddle Peak sent in copies of renewed licenses. Name on club license is Mighty Wonderful Repeater Association.

  5. Other business:
    1. There was a RFC from John Fleming, KK6NJ, for use of the old pair once used by WD6FAB (uncoordinated) 144.895 input, 145.495 output. Since this pair of frequencies is not in the TASMA bandplan, his request was denied.
    2. Gary Boskovich, KD6QL, requested use of 146.800- for a portable repeater for use in the Coachella Valley as well as Anza and the high desert. The Committee suggested that he use a frequency that is in our bandplan.
    3. Allan Avnet, AB6UB requested to be allowed to reverse his input and output because of a site problem with a commercial user. The Sunset Ridge repeater will now be 147.210 input, 147.810 output. A Motion for a one-year test was made by Jensen Woods, AH6MX, Seconded by Joe Provenza, W6UPN. After discussion of open versus private for the system, Allan agreed to an open repeater. The Vote was 6-0-0.
    4. The RFC for the W6LAR 147.375/.975 system in Redlands was discussed. The Committee didn’t see any reason that more than 50 watts ERP was needed to cover his user base. A Motion for a one-year test was made by Jensen Woods, AH6MX, Seconded by John Cordle, KF6XY. Vote was 6-0.
    5. Karl Verren, KN6CW, sent a letter (to both TASMA and SCRRBA) telling of a planned repeater system to be located on Edwards AFB. Karl Pagel, N6BVU, contacted him by telephone and advised him of the TASMA and SCRRBA web sites to download the necessary forms.
    6. An inquiry was made into the hang glider frequency matter from the last Tech meeting. Will be continued until the next meeting.
    7. Miguel Ramirez, NH2R, requested procedures to try to get his 146.490/147.490 system coordinated. He informed the Committee he has bought the 145.440 system from W1CDM in San Diego. He was requested to file a new RFC for the transfer.

  6. The TASMA Technical Committee Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Karl Pagel, N6BVU
TASMA Technical Committee Secretary
