Minutes of the Technical Committee Meeting of July 13, 1999
Minutes approved 9/14/99
Meeting was called to order by Chairman Allan Avnet, AB6UB, at 7:04 p.m.
The Minutes of the June 8, 1999, Technical Committee Meeting were read aloud by Karl Pagel, N6BVU. Motion by Jensen Woods, AH6MX, to approve the Minutes, Second by Ken Mirabella, KM6YH;
5 for, 0 against, 0 abstaining.
Agenda Item 1: Repeater systems that have finished their one-year testing period.
- KD6REG Thomas Merideth requested a 6 month extension on his 146.730 (-) and 147.735 (-) systems. Both of these systems have only been on the air for 6 months, and he will notify the Committee when both systems return to the air, so the testing clock can begin again. Input from the Palomar ARC is needed on the 147.705 (-) system. Vote 5-0.
- WA6HYQ 145.240 (-) Motion to approve by Jensen Woods, AH6MX, Second by Rob Hanson, W6RH.
Vote 5-0.
- K6GAO 145.280 (-) Motion to approve by Jensen Woods, AH6MX, Second by Ken Mirabella, KM6YH. Vote 6-0.
- WA6YBN 145.340 (-) Motion to approve by Ken Mirabella, KM6YH, Second by Jensen Woods, AH6MX. Vote 6-0.
- K6JB 146.115 (+) Motion to approve by Jensen Woods, AH6MX, Second by Joe Provenza, W6UPN.

- N6FQ 146.175 (+) Motion to approve by Jensen Woods, AH6MX, Second by Rob Hanson, W6RH.
Vote 5 for, 1 against, 0 abstaining.
- KF6QNJ 147.060 (+) Motion to approve by Karl Pagel, N6BVU, Second by Jensen Woods, AH6MX.
Vote 6-0.
Agenda Item 2: Request for Coordination test on 145.120 (-) on Onyx Peak by K6SBC. Forms need to be returned for proper signature on cover page of RFC. Motion for a 1-year test upon receipt of letter, by Joe Provenza, W6UPN, Second by Ken Mirabella, KM6YH. Vote 6-0.
Agenda Item 3: Request for Coordination test on 147.975 (-) in Redlands on Sunset hill by W6LAR. The Committee feels that W6LAR should either reduce power or use a downtilt-type antenna to reduce his signal into the Orange County area, already covered by the WD6DPY system. The Committee will need a new set of RFC applications from W6LAR when this is done. The Committee will ask WD6DPY for paper updates of his two systems on 147.975 (-), and will ask WD6DPY to Pl his system in Fullerton.
Agenda Item 4: Neither Trustee of 145.120 (-) KC6PXL or 147.945 (-) KF6JWT were able to attend the Meeting. The Chairman, Allan Avnet, AB6UB, stated that he had contacted both trustees and everything is currently O.K. on both frequencies.
Other Items of Interest:
- In response to an inquiry by KF6EOJ, about possible interference to the W6FNO 146.820 (-) system by adjacent systems, which was read to the Committee at the June 8, 1999 TC meeting, and assigned to Joe Provenza, W6UPN, to investigate; tests were run on the KE6HE repeater on the Holiday Inn in Long Beach and the results are: the deviation averages about 6 kHz and peaks about 7 kHz, and the output frequency is 400 Hz too high. The results will be forwarded to the trustee of the KE6HE system.
- A letter sent to Joe Brown, W6UBQ, trustee of the 146.880 (-) Riverside repeater, and carbon-copied to TASMA, from Jack Halem, K6DLX, was read to the Committee. No action was taken.
- Allan Avnet, AB6UB, trustee of the 147.210 (+) repeater on Sunset Ridge, told the Committee of a site problem he’s having with a commercial system. He wants to reverse his input and output to run a test. If all goes well, he will submit a RFC for the change.
- The Central States VHF Society NPRM was discussed.
- Duncan Campbell, KF6ILA, of San Diego, applied to join the Tech Committee and was approved.
Meeting adjourned at 8:48 p.m.
Karl Pagel, N6BVU
